Parks & Recreation Analysis

FOUNDER | CEO

Seve Ghose began his career in Parks and Recreation part-time while paying his way through college in Iowa. Upon the completion of his first degree he was asked to run the ice arena while the search took place for the replacement of the removed facility manager. He had in the first month turned the facility around with streamlined scheduling of staff and facility, aesthetically raised the bar on appearance along with a much more sanitary facility that made it more welcoming and appreciated. The Parks and Recreation Director noticed the changes and offered the job of manager to run the facility. Thus began the full-time career in parks and recreation and directly in management.

Since then Seve has progressed on to work for Park Districts, Municipalities, Counties, and the private sector in five States. He was hired at most of these agencies to make a mark and raise the level of professionalism and community engagement to a position of strength and relevancy. Along the way he has served communities with a population of around 10,000 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado to a high of 850,000 in Louisville, Kentucky. His record as shared in detail on the resume speaks for his ability to turn moribund agencies around while uplifting staff through opening doors toward professional development, innovation, and constant learning.

In looking to give back to the profession that has been his life for the last thirty five years, he has volunteered for the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) in several capacities. He began by serving as a Visitor for the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) in 2008 and continues to do so having undertaken 22 visits, with 13 as Chair. He was also greatly honored to serve on the CAPRA Board for six years and as the Board Chair in 2018. Seve taught at the NRPA Park Maintenance Management School held in Oglebay, West Virginia each January, for two years in 2016 and 2017. He was on the inaugural committee that created the Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) exam in 2012 and still serves on that team. He has presented at NRPA conference since 2012 and at related national, State and Regional conferences on topics ranging from the value of accreditation, historical preservation, leadership, urban tree canopies, innovation, and telling the great story of parks and recreation. In 2013 Seve was recognized with the NRPA National Distinguished Professional Award at the National Congress in Houston, Texas for his devotion, advocacy, leadership, innovation, research, program development and community engagement. Seve was selected to be on the Faculty of the NRPA Directors School starting in 2022 for a five-year commitment. This program is for park and recreation professionals who are recent Directors and those who are on track to be so within two to three years..

On a personal level Seve is a keen photographer who likes to travel. He has with family visited 121 national parks and monuments in 36 States. Seve has been married for 22 years and has three children ages 19, 15, and 12 who are accomplished in their own way. The family also has a Corgi/Terrier named Puck, a Pointer/Boxer named Finn, and a black cat named Biscuit. Over the years he has travelled far and wide through Africa, Asia, and Europe and brings a deeper appreciation of the surroundings to his daily work in creating a symbiosis of being one with nature through genuine inclusion. He and his wife do a bit of gardening and have created quite a space, offering a cacophony of scents and color, both in their front and back yards.

Seve has mentored young professionals for many years and in 2020 was inducted into the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA). With this background, knowledge, and valued experience he is embarking on the next phase of his career in offering his expertise to agencies who wish to raise the bar in their respective communities through bold leadership. He looks forward to working with you while also learning more about the profession we all love and care deeply about.
